What Acumo is, and is not

Acumo is a study tool for advanced English learners, roughly CEFR B2 to C2. It is built on a curated collection of words and phrases, and it specialises in the ones people mix up: homophones, near-homophones, look-alike spellings, usage confusables and phrasal-verb families.

Acumo is not a dictionary. It does not try to contain every English word. It holds a curated collection, plus whatever you add yourself.

“I searched for a word and it was not there”

That is expected, and it is not a bug. Tap Add it to my list and the word becomes part of your own set, searchable and reviewable like the rest. You can add your own meaning and an example if you want them. On iPhone and iPad the share extension does the same from any app: select a word, tap Share, and choose Acumo.

Reminders are not arriving

  1. In Acumo, check that Settings, then Reminders is switched on.
  2. In your device’s own Settings, then Notifications, then Acumo, make sure notifications are allowed.
  3. Acumo asks for permission only after your first finished review session. If you declined then, iOS will not ask again, so turn it on in the device’s Settings.
  4. Reminders are local: one a day, on days when items are due. They work offline and need no internet connection.

Does Acumo work offline?

Yes, completely. The whole collection ships inside the app, and Acumo makes no network calls at all. Pronunciation uses the voices installed on your device: choose one in Acumo under Settings, then Audio. iOS can download more natural voices in the device’s own Settings, and that download is between you and Apple.

What is free, and what does Pro unlock?

Acumo is complete for free: the whole collection, the entire confusable engine, search, meanings, examples, pronunciation, unlimited saved items, all four card types, one daily reminder, and one gloss language, whichever you pick first. No ads, ever.

Pro is a single one-time purchase, not a subscription. It adds the retention system:

  • FSRS scheduling: each word comes back on the day you are about to forget it. That timing is the FSRS algorithm, as used by Anki. Free review uses a fixed 1 · 3 · 7 · 21-day ladder.
  • Weak-item targeting: drills what you keep getting wrong
  • Progress and retention: your real retention rate, and the pairs you keep confusing
  • Widgets on iPhone and iPad: word of the day and your due count, gradeable without opening the app
  • Every gloss language beyond your first, shown together on the same entry
  • Anki-compatible and CSV export
  • Backup and restore of your list, schedule included

Choosing your free gloss language

Glosses come in Persian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Arabic. The first language you pick in Settings, then Language is your free one, and Acumo asks you to confirm before it is used. The others come with Pro.

I bought Pro but it is not showing

  • Tap Restore purchases, either on the Pro screen or in Settings, then Your data. It answers either “Restored — Pro is unlocked.” or “No previous purchase was found.”
  • Restoring needs the same Apple Account that made the purchase. If Pro still does not appear, email us with the date of purchase.
  • Purchases are processed by Apple. For billing or refunds, use Apple’s Report a Problem. We are happy to help with the unlock itself.

Can I get my words out? Moving to a new phone

Yes, with Pro, in Settings, then Your data. Export saves your collection in an Anki-compatible format or as CSV. Back up my list saves a file with your words, your own entries and where each item sits in the schedule. Save it to iCloud Drive, and Restore from a backup on the new device adds what is missing without touching what is already there. Your collection is yours.

Do you collect any data?

No. Acumo has no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no account. See the Privacy Policy.

Email support@lokotechnologies.ca with the item and, if you can, the sentence you met it in. Real examples of what tripped you up are the most useful thing you can send.
